The Commonwealth Ranger School at Fort Becker provides free training for Commonwealth residents and Basic Training for the Minutemen.
The Commonwealth Ranger School uses 3 training phases and 5 training mission types to train Minutemen and Commonwealth residents in the basic skills to defend their settlements.
- Fort Phase: basic weapons and Ranger procedures training at Fort Becker
- Patrol Base Phase: working from remote patrol bases on long-term mission assignments, or short-term Minutemen support missions
- Search & Rescue Phase: work with a Ranger SAR team to extract hostages and other surgical missions
The Ranger Basic Course
The Ranger Basic Course covers the basic necessities to operate as a Commonwealth Ranger in 3 easily achievable training phases using 5 basic mission types, in 2 categories.
Ranger Training Missions
- Supply cache missions: gear and supplies need to be staged in preparation for phase 2.
- Patrol Base management: trainees learn to set up and manage a Minuteman/Ranger patrol base, from which longer missions are managed.
- Establish Communications: set up a radio station at a patrol base to manage and relay artillery and medical calls.
- Search & Rescue (SAR): recovering people and herds stolen by raiders and rustlers.
- Capture the Flag: Rangers don’t assault objectives like soldiers.
Settlement Missions
Commonwealth Rangers also run a variety of local settlement support missions,
- Tech Support: help repair generators, radios, water filters and other tech resources that are desperately needed.
- Wildlife Management: Rangers harvest local predators and sick and injured animals, for a variety of reasons.
- First Aid Stations: Rangers assist with managing first aid stations at patrol bases, in coordination with the Followers of the Apocalypse medics who manage the Fort Becker hospital.
- Wildcrafting: is the art of gathering edible and medicinal plants. Rangers should do this in passing when possible.
- Trade Route Security: learn to manage a trade caravan
